Privacy policy

Last updated: 2 September 2026.

Airborne Media & Consultancy Ltd is the data controller for personal information processed by TroutSpy. TroutSpy may also use the country code supplied by Cloudflare at request time to choose a sensible default measurement system (for example, Imperial where a full customary-unit preset is appropriate and Metric in the United Kingdom). This is a coarse country-level setting, not precise location tracking, and an explicit unit choice saved in your browser takes priority.

Information we process

Depending on how you use TroutSpy, we may process your email address and account identifier; passwordless sign-in and session identifiers; searched or saved fishing waters and coordinates; catch-log entries you choose to save; Stripe customer/subscription identifiers and subscription status; support correspondence; and limited technical/security logs generated by our infrastructure. When you choose “Use my location”, your browser supplies coordinates for the requested forecast. Catch-log coordinates are stored rounded to four decimal places.

Why we process it and our lawful bases

We process account, saved-water, catch-log and subscription information where necessary to provide the TroutSpy service you request and perform our contract with you. We use limited security, fraud-prevention and reliability information for our legitimate interests in protecting and operating the service. We may retain information needed to meet legal, accounting, tax or dispute-handling obligations. For users of the free service, we may use Google AdSense to display advertising. Where consent is required, advertising and related non-essential storage or processing are subject to a Google-certified consent management platform and the choices you make there. Advertising is not used to alter TroutSpy fishing recommendations. TroutSpy also uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate use of the service. In the United Kingdom, EEA and Switzerland, Google Consent Mode starts non-essential analytics and advertising storage in a denied state. Where configured, Google’s consent management platform in AdSense Privacy & messaging presents the consent choices and passes those choices to Google Analytics and advertising services.

Service providers and data recipients

TroutSpy uses selected third-party providers to operate the service. These include Cloudflare for hosting and security, Resend for account emails, Stripe for payments and subscriptions, MET Norway and OpenStreetMap services for forecast and mapping data, and Google Analytics for aggregate usage measurement where allowed, and Google AdSense for advertising on the free service where enabled. These providers may process limited personal or technical information where necessary to provide their services. Full payment-card details are handled by Stripe rather than stored by TroutSpy, and advertising remains subject to applicable consent choices.

International transfers

Some service providers may process personal information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we rely on the provider's applicable adequacy arrangements, contractual safeguards or other lawful transfer mechanism.

Retention

Login codes expire after 10 minutes and expired/used codes are routinely deleted. Signed-in browser sessions expire after up to 180 days. Saved waters and catch-log records are kept until you delete them or your account is closed, subject to any information we must retain for legal reasons. Subscription and transaction-related records may be retained for longer where necessary for accounting, tax, fraud, dispute or legal requirements; financial records may need to be retained for up to six years. Support correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed for the enquiry and any related legal obligations.

Cookies, analytics, advertising and browser storage

TroutSpy uses essential, secure HttpOnly cookies to keep signed-in users authenticated and to recognise verified subscription access. These are required to provide the account service. Browser storage may also be used for preferences such as units and for local migration data.

TroutSpy uses Google Consent Mode v2. In the United Kingdom, EEA and Switzerland, analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation start denied. The Google tag may use limited cookieless measurement signals while consent is denied, and Google’s consent management platform updates the consent state after the visitor makes a choice. The GA4 property records usage information such as page views and selected non-identifying product events (for example, opening Pro pricing or completing a purchase). TroutSpy does not send account email addresses, fishing-water names or precise coordinates to GA4. Consent choices and revocation are managed through Google’s published privacy message where it applies.

On the free main planning page, Google AdSense may use cookies, local storage or similar technologies for advertising, fraud prevention, measurement and—where you consent—personalisation. In the EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland, TroutSpy will rely on a Google-certified consent management platform for the consent signals required for Google advertising. A verified Pro account does not load the AdSense advertising script on the main TroutSpy planning page.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law can give you rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. You can delete individual saved waters and catch-log entries in the service. For account-level requests, contact us using the details above. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Complaints

Please contact us first if you have a privacy concern. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) where applicable.

Children

TroutSpy is a general fishing-planning service. A person under 18 should not purchase TroutSpy Pro without the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian.
